A Monument
For me everything that commemorates a person or event can be a monument. Monument is closely connected with history and the memory, however, its value is to present a better life in the moment. people get reflection and emotional comfort. if we see history from the perspective of calculus, each moment constitutes the microscopic part of this macroscopic history, very little, it is an important derivative of the future. Our present is also guided by countless historical derivatives.
From the macro level, commemoration is a kind of historical lookback, allowing us to jump out of the microscopic, to peep into the “macro laws,” and thus to guide the present. From the micro level, for each individual, such a lookback is a way to comfort memories, either collective memory, or personal memories that share the similar human connected emotional experience, so that emotions can be released.
Our project is to provide people with a physical space for the emotions, so that people, as a social animal, can find such a private space alone with memory in the public space. It is physically alone but emotionally connected, because people share the same miserable feeling. It provides people with spiritual consolation, allows the painful emotions of missing to be released, and enables life to continue in a better direction.
